The Bioworks Process Containment Cover System controls odors while providing a physical barrier that reduces drying and shields the pile from rain. It also deters birds and other pests attracted to feedstocks like food scraps.
MEET REGULATORY EMISSION STANDARDS
Bioworks Process Containment Cover System
The Bioworks Process Containment Cover System optimizes the environment within ASP compost piles by regulating temperature and moisture during the active composting phase while controlling volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. It enhances air quality and minimizes environmental impacts by effectively mitigating odors, creating better conditions for both staff and nearby communities. The micro-porous and permeable structure of the StedAIR® membrane allows moisture to escape while maintaining essential coverage, thus ensuring optimal composting conditions.
Compost Covers
Compost operations worldwide have relied on StedAIR® membrane laminate technology since 2008. Manufactured by Stedfast, a premier North American membrane producer with over 90 years of experience, this technology is applied to a variety of organic feedstocks, including green waste, pre- and post-consumer food waste, digested and undigested biosolids, and mixed solid waste.
The semipermeable, microporous fabric cover is installed over the compost bunker or pile on an Airfloor® aerated floor with positive aeration and integrated leachate control. The Bioworks Process Containment Cover System provides effective containment and protection—eliminating the need for a building or an external biofilter.
As the pile’s exhaust air reaches the cover, moisture condenses on the underside, absorbing water-soluble gaseous compounds. This moisture then drips back into the composting pile, further reducing emissions. The fabric cover also acts as a physical barrier, preventing excessive drying, shielding the pile from rain, and deterring birds and other pests attracted to feedstocks like food scraps.
The Bioworks Process Containment Cover System controls odors, maintains moisture, and protects compost from rain while deterring pests. As a complete in-vessel solution, it reduces startup time and costs, accelerates PFRP compliance, and aids in producing Class ‘A’ compost in as little as 10 days. Its space-efficient design improves throughput by 3-4x over windrow systems, while the unique StedAIR® covers cut VOC emissions by over 95%.
The Bioworks Process Containment Cover System controls odors while providing a physical barrier that reduces drying and shields the pile from rain. It also deters birds and other pests attracted to feedstocks like food scraps.
Controlled composting ensures uniform temperatures, achieving PFRP compliance faster than traditional windrows. The system can produce Class “A,” pathogen-free compost within 10 days and reduce VOCs to near undetectable levels within three weeks.
As a complete system, it includes the design and supply of all necessary components for a seamless in-vessel composting operation, significantly reducing startup time and costs. The Bioworks team supports your prime consultant through project planning and permitting.
The system functions as an in-vessel composting solution, meeting containment requirements without the need for buildings or biofilters while satisfying PFRP standards for aerated static pile composting.
Its compact footprint increases processing capacity by 3-4x compared to conventional windrow systems.
Independent third-party testing confirms that StedAIR® covers reduce non-methane, non-ethane total organic carbon (VOCs) by over 95% compared to windrow composting.
