Mission accomplished.
In the rural landscape of British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, the Mission Sanitary Landfill, also known as Minnie’s Pit, once operated a basic organic waste composting facility. However, by 2014, it faced significant challenges, failing to meet provincial regulations and lacking essential infrastructure.
In response, the City of Mission issued a challenge: upgrade the facility within a tight three-month timeframe and on a limited budget. The team comprised of affiliates BuildWorks Construction and Bioworks Compost Systems, stepped up to the task.
Their approach was straightforward: create a comprehensive composting system while maximizing efficiency and quality. The revamped facility boasted increased capacity, better compost quality, and compliance with regulations. Key features included Bioworks’ patented Airfloor® system for efficient aeration and leachate collection, along with a durable MegaDome® structure.
Today, the facility continues to operate smoothly, a testament to effective collaboration and practical innovation. Mission Sanitary Landfill’s journey from outdated to efficient showcases the power of good strategic planning by the client, and effective and efficient execution of a waste management project.
