Composting on a landfill.
READY TO COMPOST IN 100 DAYS!
The City of Mission’s composting facility, known as Minnie’s Pit in British Columbia, Canada, faced challenges with regulatory non-compliance and inadequate infrastructure. In June 2014, the city issued a Design-Build RFP to upgrade the facility within a strict three-month timeline and on a limited budget.
BuildWorks, in collaboration with Bioworks Compost Systems, delivered a comprehensive solution aimed at enhancing efficiency, capacity, and compost quality. The design featured a 140×70 ft MegaDome® fabric-covered building and an extended aerated static pile (E-ASP) system, increasing capacity by 200% compared to conventional setups. Bioworks’ patented Airfloor® technology ensured optimal aeration and effective leachate collection, while the durable MegaDome® structure provided robust protection for long-term use.
Despite the tight schedule, BuildWorks completed the project in just 100 days. The facility not only met but exceeded expectations, with the customer expressing high satisfaction both at the warranty inspection and again seven years later during a maintenance review. This project stands as a testament to successful project management, innovative design, and unwavering commitment to quality.
